DFO: Count me among those who believe the judiciary, particularly the federal judiciary and 9 U.S. Court of Appeals, is out of control. When a single federal judge can overturn the clear will of the electorate, something's wrong. DFO: Do you believe judicial activism is out of control? Or that WND and I should quit watching "Conspiracy Theory"? .
Stage 4 - Wednesday, July 9: Joinville - Saint-Dizier, TTT, 69 km
On the first day of summer heat in the 2003 Centenary Tour De France, Lance Armstrong and his USPS-Berry Floor squad blazed across the French countryside to a decisive win in Stage 4's team time test. It was a long sought after win for Lance & Co., not just for the four years since Armstrong has dominated the Tour De France. In fact, Lance has wanted this team win for almost a decade. Today, he and his eight teammates got their first ever team time trial victory and as an added bonus, Colombian Victor Hugo Pea, Armstrong's loyal teammate from Bogota (who lives in Piedecuesta), became the first ever rider to wear the Maillot Jaune from the bicycle mad nation of Colombia. Tomorrow it's Pea's 29th birthday and he'll be awarded his weight in Champagne and then take the start wearing the golden tunic of Tour De France leadership.

The new Killeen senior and recreation centers are scheduled to open May 3. That's what Killeen Parks and Recreation Director Brett Williams told Community Services Committee members and city staff during a tour of the two facilities' progress at Lions Club Park on Tuesday. Williams said the new senior center is 85 percent done and the new family recreation center is 75 percent completed. The committee started the tour in the senior center, which will include a covered drop-off area, a ballroom with a platform, administrative offices, and crafts, billiards, games, exercise and living rooms. "This is the main feature of the building," said Williams, standing in the center of the ballroom. He said the new senior center is much larger than the current Bob Gilmore center.

The second collection of Joan Crawford films is even better than the first, covering a wider range of her career and unearthing more than the usual suspects. The earliest of the films is the pre-Code "Sadie McKee" (1934), with Crawford climbing up the social ranks and having romances along the way. The latest film in the five-disc collection is "Torch Song" (1953), with Crawford as a bitter Broadway star who comes under the spell of a blind piano player. It's total, crazy camp and irresistible. In between, there are good entries that cover Crawford's prime, such as "A Woman's Face" (1941), about a scarred woman whose life is transformed by plastic surgery, and "Strange Cargo" (1940), a religious allegory co-starring Clark Gable. Finally, there's "Flamingo Road" (1949), with Crawford as a city woman who finds herself stuck in a small Southern town.
Clinton, Obama Clash In Ohio Debate
In their final debate before critical primaries in Ohio and Texas, Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton clashed sharply on familiar ground, arguing Tuesday night over who has the better health-care plan, who has been right about Iraqand who would move most aggressively to rethink trade policy as president. In contrast to their debate five days ago in Texas, Clinton and Obama butted heads from the opening moments, starting with a clash over whether the senator from Illinois had mischaracterized her plan for universal health care in his campaign mailings, and continuing throughout the 90-minute session. "We should have a good debate that uses accurate information, not false, misleading and discredited information, especially on something as important as whether or not we will achieve quality, affordable health care for everyone," said Clinton (New York).

23rd and Union claims another
Welcome to one of the most notorious intersections in Seattle. This is where drugs and cash change hands out in the open, protesters take to the streets for justice, and bullets too often fly. This is where a football star found trouble, a Seattle mayor was beaten in daylight, and just this week, a life was stolen. Given nearby gentrification, the spot is at a crossroads. Given the thugs who loiter near the intersection's four corners, it sits in cross hairs. The victim Wednesday was 32-year-old Degene Barecha, who came a long way to die senselessly. An immigrant from Ethiopia, he was working at Philadelphia Cheese Steak, the restaurant he owned at the corner, when a customer walked in with a gun. Early Friday, crimson spatters still stained the restaurant floor.
