Pvt consultants to prepare Mohali master plan

The Punjab Government would engage private consultants to prepare the Master Plan of Greater Mohali. A job that should have been done by the Department of Country and Town Planning would instead be handed over to private agencies.

Interestingly, the Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (PUDA) has had to deploy Delhi-based Feedback Consultants even for the preparation of a request for proposal (RFP) document which will provide the private consultant bidders with information to assist the formulation of their proposal.

Saline nasal wash helps kids battle cold

BEIJING, Jan. 22 (Xinhuanet)-- A saline nasal wash solution made from processed seawater may help children with a common cold, according to a new report in Monday's Archives of Otolaryngology.

The solution can help by reducing symptoms associated with the common cold, as well as reducing the risk of recurrent respiratory infections, the study said.

It may be that the salt water has a simple mechanical effect of clearing mucus, or it could be that trace elements in the water play some more significant role, though the exact reason why such a solution works is not known, said Dr. Ivo Slapak and colleagues at the Teaching Hospital of Brno in the Czech Republic.

The researchers studied 390 children between 6 and 10 who had uncomplicated cold or flu symptoms for 12 weeks in the winter of 2006.

Two men charged in Hobart arson

Two men have been charged with arson in connection with a fire that destroyed the Hobart home of one of the suspects.

A neighbor called police at 7:18 a.m. Friday after hearing a loud boom, seeing flames at the home where Mance lived and noticing a man wearing a dark colored sweatshirt and jeans running from inside the home.

Police found the sweatshirt, which was burned on both arms and the torso area, and saw bicycle tire tracks leading away from the scene. A short time later, a Lake Station ambulance was called to Clouse's home for a burn victim.

Travel safely- advice from The Travel Clinic Ltd, Cambridge

First and foremost be aware of the possibility of security risks. Realistically considering security concerns while not spoiling your trip through becoming over anxious is a delicate balance. Discussing these issues with friends, hosts, hotel staff and tour company couriers, for example, is important.

To reduce the risk of mugging it is best to travel in groups, avoid areas recognised as risky especially after dark, keep on the move, carry an alarm or an anti-personnel spray (may be illegal in some countries), wear modest clothing and do not display wealth (e.g. wearing a camera around the neck).

· Most authorities say that travellers should not resist if mugged. It is better to lose valuables than be injured or worse. Where possible report incidents to police services or at least to your hosts or hotel staff.

Ghana 1-0 Namibia: Agogo earns ANC win

Junior Agogo scored the only goal as Ghana laboured to a 1-0 victory against dogged Namibia in the African Nations Cup on Thursday.

The hosts seemed to struggle to get into gear as the Brave Warriors put up stubborn resistance in the Group A clash in Accra, with Agogo's 41st-minute strike proving the difference.

The win put Claude Le Roy's team on six points and in a strong position to qualify, while Namibia remain pointless after losing their opening game to Morocco, but it was a much improved performance from the Southern Africans.

Ghana predictably made the early running and Sulley Muntari hit a spectacular bicycle kick early on which flew straight at Attiel Mbaha from the edge of the penalty area and brought the crowd to life.

Four minutes later Laryea Kingston's teasing cross from the right was well struck by Quincy Owusu-Abeyie from eight yards, but Mbaha pushed the danger away superbly with his feet.

Bill Gates - You Asked The Questions

I've just emerged from the Microsoft machine, shaken but unscathed. I've interviewed Bill Gates three or four times over a 12 year period, and each time I come out impressed by the sheer professionalism of the Microsoft PR operation but wondering whether we've been successfully spun.

This time we tried a new tactic - getting BBC viewers, listeners and readers to ask the questions. We had thousands, covering every aspect of Bill Gates and Microsoft - past, present and future. Over two hundred were seeking jobs, one gentleman was proposing himself as the next CEO of Microsoft, and another wondered whether the secrets of Windows software had been recovered from a crashed UFO.

We did not ask that one, but managed to get through around fifteen questions during our allotted fifteen minutes.
