State VS Ryan Frederick-no this young man does not deserve the death penalty. I question if he should even be prosecuted. I am truly sorry for the officers family. I think it is because he killed an officer that he is being treated so harshly. Noone will ever know if this was an intentional murder or if Mr. Frederick was only trying to protect himself and his property. The fact that he has no criminal record should be considered. I would like the prosecutor to ask himself, "If this man had shot an intruder intending to enter his house illegally would I be charging him man?" It is very apparent that the police department made many mistakes that night. Why should this young man be punished for the rest of his life. Bridget, Gates NC

-I believe that the police didn't ID themselvees as usual and that Ryan Frederick was protecting his home against intruders, and HE should be released at once.

Highway closed in Florida after Victorian cyclist dies

Australian tourist Elsise Hoath was apparently looking in the wrong direction for oncoming traffic when she was hit at 12.20pm Sunday US time. She died at the scene. Mrs Hoath and her husband were cycling near the town of Marathon, near Key West in the Florida Keys when the accident happened.

The 23-year-old driver of the car that hit her is unlikely to be charged. Lieutenant Pat Santangelo from the Florida Highway Patrol said the pair were attempting to walk their bicycles across the road. They successfully crossed the northbound lanes of the US 1 highway but tragedy struck on the southbound lanes. "Evidently, because the traffic comes from the opposite direction in Australia, apparently she looked at where she expected traffic to be coming from and didn't see anybody coming and walked into the roadway but there was a vehicle coming from her right,'' he said.

The Dodger Stadium location made the young Angels more prominent and therefore helped make the Johnny Grant parties even more special. Chance's offerings would be especially hard to deal with the day after those parties.

Houk had a temper. His face would puff up and get red, his cheeks - already bulging from an incessant tobacco plug - bulging. He got like that when his authority was challenged, especially by young players or upstarts accusing the Yankees of treating them unfairly, but he especially blew up when arguing with umpires. As a player, he was always bandaged up from some fight. He and teammate Hank Bauer - a gruff ex-Marine - were cut out of the same cloth.

Houk's wife, Betty extracted a promise to pay her the same amount as the fines he received for being thrown out of games.

Wilmington undercover officers make drug, weapon arrest

Wilmington police arrested a 27-year-old man Wednesday night after he allegedly attempted to sell heroin to an undercover vice officer, police said today.

Mark Travis, of the first block of Delamore Place, agreed to meet the undercover officer in the 400 block of West St., said Wilmington police spokesman Master Sgt. Steven Barnes.

He arrived at 9:30 p.m. in a car driven by a 26-year-old woman whose 6-year-old daughter was in the back seat, Barnes said.

After Travis allegedly completed the drug deal, officers arrested him and found in his possession 26 bags of heroin stamped "sweet dreams," marijuana and a Glock 9mm handgun, Barnes said.

After obtaining a search warrant, officers conducted a search at Travis' residence and found 27 more bags stamped "high octane," a bag containing 3.3 grams of heroin, drug packaging supplies and $311 cash, he said.
