Pounded for memory enhancements

Baseball players take performance-enhancing substances. Okay, not all baseball players do. As of this moment – not wishing to have my buns sued off – Roger Clemens never has.

Some bicycle racers do, too. And Olympic athletes, some of them.

And it's all okay with me.

I'm even thinking of taking a performance-enhancing substance myself. But here's where the situation gets tricky. Because I'm not sure it's okay with me.

This has nothing to do with ethics, though. It has to do with getting caught and getting kicked out of the newspaper game.

I'm thinking of taking Remember-fX. It's made by the outfit that makes Cold-fX. What Cold-fX does for colds, Remember-fX does for remembering. Why wouldn't it? It's made of the same stuff.

Amesbury will benefit from Tesco superstore

WE welcome the interest in our proposed Tesco food store, planned to be built on the partially derelict site of the former Gregory's Transport Depot and adjoining commercial land, in London Road, Amesbury.

We have consulted widely with residents - in particular those who live next to the site - and believe the plans will give the people of Amesbury what they want.

That is: a new modern food store close to Amesbury town centre which offers additional choice, value and convenience.

Engineering Sturgeon Bay’s future

Among those currently evolving are renovations to Egg Harbor Road, the spring construction on Third Avenue and the ongoing construction of the new Maple-Oregon Street Bridge.

Vexing though these projects may be, city engineer Tony Depies maintains an unflappable composure in the public eye.

I think its my personality that keeps me satisfied with this job and keeps me from not being frustrated, Depies said. Having to live in the parameters of a public atmosphere, you have to be level-headed. When I get frustrated or flustered, I get red cheeks, but thats about it.

It is likely that Depies red cheeks flare up during the numerous meetings he attends involving public works in Sturgeon Bay, especially those regarding recent construction.

Usually when we make a decision, its not unanimous and we often revisit previous decisions, Depies said.

Guba Debuts Online Video Store with Warner Bros.

Guba Debuts Online Video Store with Warner Bros. Posted by: Heather Green on June 26

Warner Bros. keeps pushing the envelope in delivering TV shows and movies in alternative ways. After announcing last month that it was teaming up with BitTorrent, the studio today is now offering videos via online video service Guba.

Warner Bros. is starting with around 120 titles, ranging from movies such as Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Best in Show, to TV shows including Babylon 5.

The shows can be rented, starting at $1.99 cents for movies. Or they can be bought and downloaded onto a computer or copied onto a laptop. Movies prices range between $9.99 and $19.99. They can't be copied yet to portable players, though that's in the works. The company is using Windows DRM, though Guba says they're looking into other formats.

Goodbye Lycra, hello street cred

For the past few years, we have been told that cycling is becoming fashionable, in the sense that more people are doing it. But next month, it will become truly fashionable – as in the "Milan, darling" sense – when Chanel launches a limited-edition, eight-gear bicycle complete with leather saddle and quilted panniers, adorned with the trademark interlinked Cs, of course. But at £6,200, it's probably not a good idea to leave it chained to the railings outside the local pub.

Far North Austin getting more luxury apartments

A Phoenix apartment developer has begun construction on two luxury apartment projects in far North Austin.

Alliance Communities, the Texas division of Alliance Residential Co., is building Broadstone Travesia and Broadstone Grand Avenue, which will bring nearly 700 new apartments to the area.

The 396-unit Broadstone Travesia is going up next to the 216,000-square-foot Travesia Corporate Park on Quick Hill Road across from La Frontera. The 280-unit Grand Avenue project is going up on one mile south of Round Rock on the northeast corner of the intersection of Grand Avenue Parkway and I-35.

"The Austin economy is and will continue to be vibrant, creating strong population growth and employment," says Stephen Sweet, South Texas Division Partner of Alliance Communities.
