Used Road Bicycles

Cyclist, truck collide near OHSU

So are all of you going to "git yer guns" out and shoot all the cyclists you see? Cars and vehicles can coexists, believe it or not, And if you argue that liberalism is a mental disorder then you have to say that so is conservatism.

And you are picking one example of a person who obviously made the mistakes and caused the accident, and applying it to all cyclists. There are just as many if not MORE moron divers out there.

Yes there are increased risks riding bikes, just like there are increased risks riding motorcycles, but I don't hear any of you calling to get them off the road too. Motorcycles are most often in accidents because drivers of cars and trucks don't see them, the same reasons as bicycles.

Face it, the real issue is that you just want the roads all to yourselves.

Life is sweet: Sophie Ellis-Bextor in a tonne of Hundreds and Thousands

The Children's Society is asking the public to describe their early recollections for a report on what a good childhood should look like.

Ellis-Bextor, mother of three-year-old Sonny, said: "I'm delighted to support The Children's Society's campaign to make childhood better for all children in the UK today.

"As a mum, I want my children to have some fantastic memories.

"Being covered in Hundreds and Thousands is much more fun than I imagined but the serious message is we really need hundreds and thousands of childhood memories - please share yours."

Martin Field, director of campaigns at the charity, said: "Recent research held up the UK as the worst country in the developed world to grow up in.

England ‘has become poor relation’ in health care

As 2008 marks the 60th anniversary of the creation of the NHS, Michael Summers, vice-chairman of the Patients Association, a UK-wide charity aimed at helping people share their experiences of healthcare, said: "We should follow best practice ... which they have discovered in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

"They have all said that people should have free prescriptions and that we should look after our elderly people. England, for some reason, seems to have been the poor relation."

Wait May Foil Immigrants' Right To Vote

The fees to apply for American citizenship rose to $675 from $400 starting July 30, 2007. In July 2007, applications jumped by more than 600% from the previous year. In that one month, 460,294 people applied to become citizens, according to numbers obtained from the federal government and released yesterday by the Migration Policy Institute, a pro-immigration think tank whose chairman is the Bishop of Brooklyn, Nicholas DiMarzio.

"It's a really dramatic increase," a senior fellow at the Migration Policy Institute, Doris Meissner, who was commissioner of the Immigration and Naturalization Service during the Clinton administration, said. "It's the volume that is unusual."

Some critics and immigration advocates have suggested the United States Customs and Immigration agency was unprepared for the large number of people who applied before the increase in fees went into effect.

Beach narrows its list of potential Dome developers

I'd like to be able to walk on the boardwalk at the beach and get something to eat. I'd like to be able to take my family to walk around the shops without feeling like I am going to be run down by cars (since your beach boardwalk is non-existent and the shops are on atlantic or in the town center). I'd like to be able to drive anywhere in the city without being stuck at traffic lights.

I doubt whether this latest development will address any of this tourist's desires.

I come to VB because I have family in the area. But to have fun (and, generally, to spend money), I go to Ocean City, Maryland or the Outer Banks. And, it is a shame, because when I first starting coming here, 20-some years ago, VB was a lovely resort town.

Talk of the day

U.S. consumers spent 10 percent less on music in 2007, reflecting declining purchases of compact discs, according to a survey by New York-based researcher NPD. Sales of downloads rose as Apple Inc.'s iTunes became the second-largest music retailer. About 48 percent of teenagers didn't buy a CD last year, up from 38 percent in 2006, NPD said Tuesday. Compact disc sales declined 19 percent in the U.S. last year, according to Nielsen SoundScan, which tracks retail sales. Downloads and mobile ring tones weren't enough to make up for the drop. Apple's iTunes store became the second-biggest seller of music in 2007 after Wal-Mart Stores Inc., passing Best Buy Co. and Target Corp., NPD said. ITunes has sold more than 4-billion songs, Apple said.
